Malta's Environmental Health Directorate samples designated bathing sites weekly during the swimming season, testing for E. coli and intestinal enterococci. Each site is rated Excellent, Good, Sufficient or Poor based on a four-year rolling average of results.

EHD publishes its results a couple of days after each sampling week closes. A report marked “covering up to 14 June” may not appear until 16 June, so by the time you see it the data is already a few days old. We factor this into the swimming score, but conditions can change between samples. Always follow local notices and flag signals at the beach.
