About this Beach
A 17th century watchtower built by the Knights of St John still stands at the mouth of the inlet, put there to guard against Ottoman corsairs who raided Gozo's coastline for centuries. Xlendi was one of the island's main fishing harbours well into the twentieth century and retains that character despite the restaurants that now line the waterfront.
